When it senses that any number of wheels are rotating considerably slower than the others (a condition that is intending to bring it to lock – see note below), it actuates the valves to lower the pressure on the specific braking circuit for the personal wheel, properly lowering the braking force on that wheel. The wheel(s) then turn faster; if they turn too fast, the force is reapplied. This course of action is repeated constantly, and this brings about the characteristic pulsing feel through the brake pedal. A typical anti-lock method can utilize and launch braking pressure about twenty times a second.Note: The ECU must identify when several of the wheels turn significantly slower than any others simply because when the car is turning the 2 wheels in direction of the focus of the curve inherently move to some extent slower than the other two C which is the reason why a differential is used in essentially all commercial motor vehicles.The devices can become polluted with steel dust, or other debris, and fail to correctly detect wheel slip; this is not usually obtained by the internal Anti-lock braking system controller diagnostic. In this case, the ABS signal light will often be lit up on the instrument panel, and the ABS will be disabled until the fault is rectified.
