As we all know, we are approaching the 250th anniversary of the founding of our
country. This means that 250 years ago, The colonists were experiencing many
victories along the way towards their eventual independence, so this year we are
honoring those victories and battles that were won in North Carolina.
We are especially focusing on the original Children of the American Revolution who
participated in the War for Independence, whether they be a musician, an honor guard,
a scout, or youth who stayed to help on the homefront. We, the youth of today, honor
the youth of the past who helped shape our country.
This year, we will be raising money to send kids to camp! We are partnering with
Victory Junction, a non-profit organization that gives summer camp experiences to
children with serious illnesses, at no cost to their family. My sister and brothers all
attended Victory Junction Camp in 2006, and they had a great time. For my sister
especially, it was a week to forget about illness and focus on fun.
When a child has a chronic illness, little events become big victories. When these
children attend camp, they get to experience victories all week long, from catching their
first fish, to learning a new song at the dining hall, to making new friends. Let’s help
these kids celebrate their victories as we celebrate America’s victories of the past!
When the children arrive at their cabin, on their bunks are a homemade blanket and
teddy bear. We can help by making blankets to donate, such as tie blankets, crochet,
knit, and even quilting. You can also show your support by sewing teddy bears for the
children. Please see attached sheet on specific instructions.
Goal: $5,000
